Dip Powder Nails vs Gel Polish Nails – Which Revel Nail Manicure is better?
Dip Powder Nails vs Gel Polish Nails – Which Revel Nail Manicure is better?
A lot of women want to know – what’s better, Dip Powder manicures or Gel Polish manicures? The short answer is they are both great, at Revel Nail we sell both and people love both, but we do think at the end of the day there are some more advantages to Dip Powder over Gel Polish. However, a lot depends on your nails, your body chemistry and other things, so for some women Gel Polish is a better choice, so we’ll look at the reasons why.
Dip Powder Manicures Dip powder manicures involve dipping your nails into a colored powder rather than painting on colored polish. This creates a thick, durable coating that is cured using a special sealant rather than a UV/LED lamp. Dip powder manicures are known for their incredible longevity - they can typically last 2-4 weeks without chipping, peeling, or lifting. The powder formula also tends to be thicker and more opaque than regular nail polish, providing excellent coverage in just a few dips.
Another benefit of dip powder is that it is generally faster to apply than gel polish. The multi-step gel polish process of painting on color, curing under a lamp, and applying a top coat can take 30-45 minutes. In contrast, a dip powder manicure can be completed in as little as 20-30 minutes.
Gel Polish Manicures Gel polish manicures use a colored gel formula that is "painted" onto the nails and then cured under a UV or LED lamp. This creates a super shiny, smooth finish that is incredibly long-lasting - gel polish can typically last 2-3 weeks without chipping or peeling.
One advantage of Gel polish is that it is easier to remove, typically just requiring soaking in acetone. It’s also a bit of a con, as well – Gel Polish manicures don’t adhere as well as Dip Powder manicures and tend to chip or lift more easily. So, while getting it off is easier, it’s because the Gel Polish is not adhered as well, which means its less durable.
That said, gel polish manicures do take a bit longer to apply than dip powder. And the curing process under the lamp adds an extra step to the service.
Your body may be the final decision maker on which is better – some women have a sensitivity to Dip Powder or Gel Polish. Usually with Gel Polish this results in “soft” nails after a Gel Polish manicure, usually caused by some uncured Gel soaking into the nail bed. For Dip Powder, some women are sensitive to the Dip Powder liquids and get a stuffy nose from Dip Powder, also known as Dip Flu. You can use Sensitive Liquids – available here – if that happens to you.
Which is Better? Ultimately, the "better" option comes down to personal preference and your specific nail needs. Both dip powder and gel polish offer impressive durability and a beautiful, salon-quality finish. Dip powder may be the better choice for those who want faster application times and don't mind a slightly thicker nail coating. Gel polish could be preferable for those with Dip Powder Sensitivity or who want an easier removal process.
